In the fall of 2019, the Provost created task forces to address two key areas of importance: fixed-term faculty and promotion and tenure. The task forces worked throughout the fall and into the spring to deliver findings and recommendations to the Provost. The Provost is now seeking additional feedback from the faculty body before developing new processes and revising university rules and procedures to better support the faculty. Please review the reports below and use the links to submit your feedback to Academic Affairs. Thank you!
All feedback is due by October 1, 2020.
Fixed-term faculty contribute to campus life and institutional success in a wide variety of ways, such as teaching, research, advising students, providing administrative leadership, university service, and more. Therefore, TAMU-CC strives to create and maintain an environment that values fixed-term faculty members’ work and contributions to TAMU-CC’s teaching and scholarly communities. TAMU-CC strives to be an institution where fixed-term faculty are supported in reaching their professional and career goals.
The quality and productivity of our faculty are essential to our commitment to student success and our standing as a Tier 2 Research University. Over the last decade we have made substantial progress, increasingly hiring faculty able to produce research and creative activity of the highest impact. Yet, the promotion and tenure standards are significantly uneven across the university and with other R2 universities. Now is the ideal moment to contemplate these disconnects and engage further about how we set expectations that will continue to advance the university.
