Faculty Development Leave

HOW WILL MY PROPOSAL BE REVIEWED?

  1. The University Faculty Development Leave Committee consists of two elected faculty representatives from each of the 5 colleges, who will review all proposals submitted on time and make recommendations to the Provost.

  2. Primary Criteria for Evaluation (see section 5 of the University Rule):

    1. Overall clarity of the proposal.
    2. Merits of the proposed activity in relation to the aims and purposes of TAMU-CC, as stated in the University Catalog.
    3. Merits of the project in contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
    4. Applicant’s previously demonstrated initiative in the areas of teaching, research, publication, creative activities, or professional activities.
    5. Where available, documented results from previous TAMU-CC Research Enhancement grants (college and university) received by the applicant.
    6. Applicant’s stated intention of continued service in the profession and at TAMU-CC (included on cover form).
    7. Statements from professional peers (including department chair).
    8. Statement of endorsement from college dean.

  3. Secondary Criteria for Evaluation:

    1. Length of service at TAMU-CC.
    2. Extent to which Faculty Development Leave is necessary for accomplishment of the proposed activity.
    3. Length of time elapsed since last Faculty Development Leave.
    4. Other relevant information submitted by the applicant.

  4. The Committee will recommend to the Provost two tiers of proposals: (1) the top 5 proposals—1 per college; and (2) other meritorious proposals, not specified in number nor by college.

  5. The Provost will confer with the Academic Deans and the President on the recommendations and will forward final recommendations to the A&M System. Recommendations will proceed through the appropriate channels (e.g., Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor) and, ultimately, will appear on the Board of Regents’ agenda for their consideration. Upon Board approval, recipients of Development Leave will be notified by the Provost.
