Veterans Affairs Committee

Purpose or Function: The Veterans Affairs Committee (SVO) will share ideas, evaluate options, review and recommend policies and actions to improve and expand services for America’s returning military members. The Committee’s role is to develop a campus response and action plan to prepare for the GI Bill and other federal and state initiatives and to assist current and prospective students in making the transition from military to academic life. The Committee will ensure TAMU-CC is committed to recruiting, retaining, and supporting active duty service members, veterans, and dependents to maintain a diverse and highly qualified student body. The Committee will oversee the University’s commitment to principles and criteria, operating guidelines and best practices, of the service members Opportunity Colleges and the Military Student Bill of Rights.

Membership: The committee is comprised of representatives from the following offices: Veterans Affairs, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Assistance, Academic Advising, Student Engagement & Success, Disability Services, University Counseling Center, Career Services, PASS program and Finance & Administration. In addition, members include: the Veterans Affairs Coordinator, the ICARE Case Manager, SEAS Student Assistance Coordinator, the faculty advisor to SVO, two representatives from Faculty Senate, a representative from Staff Council, the President of SVO and two additional student veterans (appointed by the VP of SEAS).

Members will be appointed by the Vice President for Student Engagement & Success. Members not designated by job title will serve three-year staggered renewable terms.
