Library Committee

Purpose or Function: Mission:  The mission of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Library Committee (ULC) is to provide input and guidance to the library on policy and strategic matters. The ULC, as representative of the faculty, continually communicates, supports and upholds the services of the library. The ULC is part of the infrastructure supporting library operations, programs, services and information resources. The ULC strives to represent the diversity of disciplines and cultures in the university community.

Functions and Responsibilities: The ULC is committed to maintaining an environment in which members have the ability to contribute to the mission of the committee. Members are committed to assisting the functioning of the university library and the needs of individual colleges and programs. The ULC functions in a task-directed manner to facilitate productive meetings and make effective use of members’ time. Tasks include the following.

  1. Provide strategic guidance and suggestions to university administration on library activities/functioning.
  2. Provide guidance to the library administration in delivering its services to the shareholders in strategic/policy matters.
  3. Monitor the allocation and utilization of library funds and resources to various programs and colleges.
  4. Assist in evaluating the performance of the library in terms of the satisfaction of its stakeholders (i.e. students, faculty, staff, administration and the community).
  5. Communicate information necessary to build collections of specialized subject matter to satisfy the requirements of students and university and college accrediting bodies.
  6. Achieve the goals for the current academic year set by the ULC in the first meeting.
MembershipULC faculty members are appointed by the Deans of colleges and formally appointed by the President for three-year terms. The committee consists of one representative from each college. The Dean of Libraries serves on the committee in an ex-officio capacity. ULC membership is staggered by college, such that new members rotate onto the committee every two years. Thus, one third of the membership will rotate off the committee each year. All members serve two-year terms which may be renewed.

Chair: Elected by the committee. The committee elects a secretary/chair-elect, who serves in this capacity for one year and who then becomes chair for the next academic year.
